During the discussion round all participants emphasised the opportunities of economic exchange between Western Europe and Russia. They highlighted the fact that mutual investments would strengthen our continent and achieve a competitive standard for the global market. The participants pleaded for more patience and tolerance towards Russia, whose democracy is still young. There were some sceptical opinions concerning state control of the media as well as the oil and gas industry, bureaucratical restraints and corruption. But they warned against reducing one’s opinion of Russia down to these points and asked people to strive towards a more differentiated view.
